HSCI 1160L - Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B)(8 CR, 6T + 2L)
This course is designed for individuals who have an interest in working in the pre-hospital setting. It trains ambulance and rescue personnel to recognize and stabilize patients with life-threatening emergencies at the scene and to transport using specialized items of equipment. When you complete this course, you will be eligible to take the state licensing exam which is required to become an EMT in New Mexico.
Corequisite(s): HLED 1115 ; You must be at least 18 years of age to register for the state board exam; however, high school students are eligible for concurrent enrollment with permission from the department. In general, those 17 years of age may take the course and apply for licensure; however, such applicants must meet special criteria (check with Northern’s Health Science department). In order to register to take the state board exam to become a licensed EMT-B, you must earn 80 or better in this course.
