The Barbering/Cosmetology program accepts students in the Fall and Spring terms only. Requirements include:
- Final admission standing in the College as a degree-seeking student.
- Applicants must achieve a Course Placement Score placing them into ENG 109N or show evidence that they have completed ENG 109N and have completed OA 117 Business Math.
- After meeting criteria 1 and 2, arrange for an appointment with Cosmetology/Barbering for an admission interview prior to being accepted into the program. Call 505.747.5473 for this appointment.
- Complete the registration process required by the New Mexico State Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists upon acceptance into the program.
The program provides cosmetologists/barbers with the courses required by the New Mexico Board of Barbers and Cosmetology for licensure (63 credit hours, 1600 clock hours for cosmetologists and 48 credit hours, 1200 clock hours for barbers). It also expands these skills with the addition of general education courses. These are not transfer programs.
